Today, I want to share a significant chapter from my life that might resonate with many of you, especially those navigating new beginnings in foreign lands. Back in 2008, I moved to Canada, where I had the privilege of working as an academic at Alberta University. As a new permanent resident, I participated in the LINC program designed for newcomers, which immensely enriched my understanding of Canadian culture and, most notably, soft skills.
In 2009, I delivered a talk on "Soft Skills" at NorQuest College in Edmonton, a city known as the economic heart of Canada. This experience was not just about imparting knowledge but also about embracing the values of communication, emotional intelligence, and adaptability in a multicultural environment. I still cherish the CD of my talk, a keepsake that reminds me of how these skills are pivotal in shaping our professional and personal lives.
Although I returned to Istanbul University in 2010 and have not been back to Canada since, the lessons I learned there remain invaluable. Today, I am excited to bring that experience into the digital realm, hoping to provide insights and support to immigrants who share similar anxieties and aspirations.
Over the next few blog posts, I will delve into the essential soft skills that can help you thrive in any professional setting. From effective communication to leadership, these skills are not just about professional success but about enriching every interaction you have.
Stay tuned as we embark on this journey together, exploring strategies to develop these crucial skills and ensuring that your path to success is both fulfilling and impactful.
Warm regards,
Ali
